By accessing or using Heirloom (“the service,” “we,” “our”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Heirloom is a web application that uses AI to process uploaded family documents — memoirs, letters, obituaries, diaries, and similar — and generate illustrated children’s stories based on them. Stories are intended for personal, family use.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Heirloom. By using the service, you represent that you meet this requirement. The service is currently available to US residents only.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access. We are not liable for losses resulting from unauthorized use of your account.
You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to keep it up to date.
Family plan subscribers may create family groups and invite others to join via a shareable link. Creating a group requires an active Family plan subscription. Free and Starter plan users may join groups created by others, but may not create groups themselves.
Anyone with a valid invite link may join a group by signing into a Heirloom account. Group owners can remove members at any time. Members can leave a group at any time using the group menu in their gallery. The group owner cannot leave their own group — they must transfer ownership to another member first, or delete the group.
Members may share their own stories to any group they belong to. Shared stories are visible to all current members of that group but are not publicly accessible — only authenticated group members can view them. Story generation always counts against the author’s own plan quota, regardless of group membership.
If a group owner’s Family plan lapses or is cancelled, the group is frozen: existing shared stories remain visible to members, but no new stories can be added until the group is unfrozen. To unfreeze a group, the current owner (or any member, if the owner’s plan has lapsed) must transfer ownership to an account with an active Family plan. Ownership transfer does not require the incoming owner to already hold a Family plan, but if they do not, the group will remain frozen.
Group owners may delete a group at any time. Deletion removes all members and unlinks all shared stories from the group. The stories themselves are not deleted — they remain in each author’s personal gallery.
You own your documents. Uploading a document to Heirloom does not transfer any intellectual property rights to us.
Processing license. By uploading a document, you grant Nathan Crowther a limited, non-exclusive license to process the document’s text for the sole purpose of providing the Heirloom service — identifying story candidates, generating stories, and generating illustrations. This license ends when you delete the document or close your account.
Your responsibility. You confirm that you have the right to upload any document you submit — for example, that it is your own family material or material you have permission to use. Do not upload documents containing others’ private information without their consent.
Ancestor photos and reference images (optional). If you choose to upload a photo of an ancestor for appearance analysis, or a reference photo when regenerating an illustration, the photo is processed immediately by our AI provider and then discarded — it is never stored by Heirloom. You should only upload photos of individuals you have the right to use for this purpose. Photos of living individuals should only be uploaded with their consent.
